The Virtues of Kindness and a Sincere Heart

Charity begins in the home. See to it that you are always on the ready to provide for the needs of your family, be it food on the table, a loving welcome, kindness, a sincere attitude of goodwill, and a preparedness to give to others when the need arises. Virtually all your problems will melt away when you give of yourself unconditionally in the home. This is God's will for you.

He will make sure that you will be rewarded many times over for the display of unconditional love towards those you love. You must also show love, kindness and consideration to your enemies, especially to your enemies. It is written in Matthew 5:44 "But now I tell you: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." This way, your Father in Heaven is able to work miracles through you.

If this is how we conduct ourselves around others, they will see for themselves the love of God through us. It does not matter what you say to people so much, it matters more what you do and how you behave towards others.

Lead by example. Loving them when they don't deserve it is love exemplified. They will come to understand what true Christianity is all about. It is written in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 "Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth. Love never gives up; and its faith, hope, and patience never fail."

Be alert for opportunities to show people that you are willing to give them the time of day. This is how God's love is demonstrated through you. Never miss an opportunity. Lives are transformed this way. Christian faith is love demonstrated. When others see you for who you are in Christ, they will all want a part of it.

Teach them from a humble heart what it means to truly love one another. Ephesians 4:2 says "Be always humble, gentle, and patient. Show your love by being tolerant with one another." Honour others. We do this by showing them respect and forgiveness. It is written in Matthew 6:12 NLT "and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us." In fact, this is explained further in verse 14, "If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you."

How can we expect our Father in heaven to forgive us if we are harbouring judgement and blame in our hearts for the wrongs that have been done to us. We must cultivate an attitude of forgiveness and love at all times. When our Father in heaven sees this, He is able then to grant the wonderful opportunities and events He has planned for us.

We will be shown mercy and forgiveness for all the wrongs we have committted, and we will become a blessing to others. It is written in the famous 'Sermon On The Mount' in Matthew 5:7 "Happy are those who are merciful to others; God will be merciful to them!" So, not only will we be happy as promised, but we will be shown God's mercy. Let's face it, we could all do with a bit of mercy couldn't we? Amen.

PS  In the Bible is says that our only obligation is to love one another, and that by doing so we have obeyed God's Law. Romans 13:10 states "If you love others, you will never do them wrong; to love, then, is to obey the whole Law."

Glory be to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit whom I believe have gifted me with these words for you today. Amen.
